It can be hard to say no to your friends, especially if you’re the only one saying it.
But it’s important to remember that it’s okay!
If you’re not comfortable with something you shouldn’t feel like you have to do it/use it/say it just because your mates are. We all experience feelings of wanting to fit in and be accepted but we shouldn’t have to compromise who we are in order to do so.
Peer pressure may make us do things that we wouldn’t normally do such as experimenting with drugs and alcohol. It is important to feel like you can say no and make your own choices. Giving into peer pressure may lead to negative consequences later in life, you could even end up with a criminal record which could affect your life choices.
If you’re feeling pressured by others talk to someone you can trust like a teacher, close relative, youth worker or school counsellor.
